ABOUT

Boglárka Bábiczki was born in 1981 in Kecskemét, Hungary. She took her first classical singing lessons at the age of 15 in the Pál M. Bodon Music School in her hometown. After graduation she moved to Budapest and discovered the world of jazz-singing and improvisation. Her teachers were Ágnes Lakatos and Gábor Winand. Since 2006 she’s been living in Vienna, Austria, where she completed her jazz vocal studies by Eva Maria Valenta and Willi Landl in the Vienna Konservatorium.

In 2008 Michael Fischer asked her to join the legendary Vienna Improvisers Orchestra, where the focus is on conducted instant composition, a specific form of experimental and complex improvised music. Their concert at the 2022 Moers Jazzfestival (Germany) was broadcasted live on Arte Television.

In 2012 Boglarka was one of the semi-finalists at the Montreux International Jazz Voice Competition. In that year the head of the jury was Quincy Jones.

Her professional experience includes singing and improvising with various musicians from all genres, composing music for jazz and pop bands, for small ensembles and choir, teaching singing technique, improvisation and stage presence at workshops and in music schools all over Europe. In December 2018 she opened her very own singing studio: the TraLLark Gesangsstudio in the heart of Vienna.

Between 2015 and 2019 Boglarka was also a member of the Antigone-Choir at Jette Steckel’s „Antigone“ (Sophocles) in Burgtheater Vienna.

Her first cd with her quintet „BBQ“ (aka Boglarka Babiczki Quintett with Julia Schreitl – sax, clarinet, vocals / Alex Pinter – guitar / Wolfgang Bleckenwegner – bass / Martin Peham – drums) was released in 2017. „Freedom tastes like“ is a jazzpop album with uplifting music and sarcastic lyrics.

Her singer-songwriter solo project: BogLARK debuted in 2020 in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic. Boglarka is famous for her self-irony and she sends her quite strange and hard singable melodies light and playfully into the Universe. Dreampop with free improvisation and lyrical simplicity on synth and loops.

In winter 2022 Boglarka was one of the soprano vocalists touring with Shelia Michellé’s 4real American Gospel Group. The Austrian tour included 18 shows in 45 days all over the country.

Her new project in 2023 is the harp & voice duo: SISTER LOVE with the renowned harpist, Angela Stummer-Stempkowski.

Boglarka is currently working on herself and on her new compositions. Stay tuned!
